| Lifeguards – Seasonal, 10-25 hours/wk. open to ages 16+ The Mendon Parks Department is seeking certified Lifeguards to work at the Mendon Town Beach. Ideal candidates should enjoy working outside as well as working with children. Opportunities for advancement in later seasons are available to those who show leadership and initiative.
Hours include shifts between 11am and 7pm daily including weekends, holidays, evening events, and additional shifts teaching swim lessons are available from 8am-12pm. Some flexibility with scheduling is available but preference will be given to applicants with open availability. The beach opens at the end of June and is open for about 10 weeks through August. Job Requirements: Current Lifeguard and CPR/First Aid Certifications or enrollment in a class to be completed by June. Waterfront certification not required but is a plus. Duties include working outside in hot and/or inclement weather. Lifeguards are expected to swim, be active, perform water rescues if needed, and other physical tasks. Applicants must be at least 16 years by the start of their employment per Federal Child Labor Laws. Salary: Starting at $17/hr depending on qualifications and experience. Lifeguard Guard Certification details: Mendon Parks requires American Red Cross certification or an equivalent class. For those not already certified at hire, we will reimburse up to $400 for certification, paid out over 2 years. We are not able to accept Ellis shallow water guard certifications. We are also not able to accept American Lifeguard Association certifications or any other online-only class that doesn't include a practical/hands-on instruction component. | Swim Lesson Coordinator / Head Lifeguard – Seasonal, 20-40 hours/wk. open to ages 18+ The Mendon Parks Department is seeking a qualified individual to fill the role of seasonal Swim Lesson Coordinator / Head Lifeguard for the Mendon Town Beach. This is a new position, and responsibilities may evolve over the season.
This person will work under the direction of the Director of Parks and Recreation and as part of the Parks summer program management team to oversee the swim lesson program at the the Town Beach. Primary duties will include overseeing the swim lesson program, supervising lifeguards, teaching lessons, assisting with registrations, checking in participants, and collecting payments, coordinating staff schedules, interacting with customers. The ideal candidate has educational experience and passion for working with young children, leadership and/or supervisory experience, customer service skills, as well as familiarity with general office technology including Google Suites. Hours and scheduling are subject to change but the minimum hours are 8am-12pm Mon-Fri, with additional lifeguarding shifts increasing hours up to 40 as needed. Possibility for some nights and weekends for events as needed. Flexibility with scheduling is available but preference will be given to applicants with open availability and experience. Lifeguard Certification is strongly preferred although not required. Ideally this position will be a “working manager” and would be expected to pick up additional lifeguard shifts. However, we are also open to applicants without guard certification who have educational experience to oversee our lesson program. | Kids ‘N’ Us Summer Rec. Program Counselor – Seasonal, 10-40 hours/wk. open to ages 16+ The Mendon Parks Department is seeking Counselors for our Kids ‘N’ Us Summer Recreation Program. Ideal candidates are individuals who enjoy working with and inspiring children, are active and fun-loving, like working outdoors, and are hardworking and reliable. Counselors will be expected to swim every day and may be responsible for leading small group activities. Previous work experience is not required but experience working with children is a plus. Opportunities for advancement and additional pay in later seasons are available to those who show leadership and initiative. Hours include full and ½ day shifts between 7:30am and 5:30pm Mon-Fri, for 10 weeks starting in the end of June through August. Some flexibility with scheduling is available but preference will be given to applicants with open availability. . Job Requirements: Applicants must be at least 16 years old by the start of their employment. First Aid/CPR certifications preferred but not required (training may be offered). Duties include working outside in hot and/or inclement weather. Staff are expected to be active participants in all activities including swimming. Salary: Starting at $15/hr. Range: $15 - $17 per hour depending on performance and qualifications. |
| Kids ‘N’ Us Summer Rec. Prog. Junior Counselor – Seasonal, 5-15 hours/wk. Entry level position for kids ages 14-15 The Mendon Parks Department is seeking Junior Counselors for our Kids ‘N’ Us Summer Recreation Program. This position is intended to provide entry level work experience to young applicants looking for their first job. Due to the large number of applicants, we may screen candidates based on some or all of the following criteria: previous attendees of our programs, Mendon residency, age, previous experience, or other similar categories. This position does not guarantee future acceptance as a full counselor in future summers but our goal is to re-hire the majority of this years’ Junior Counselors as Counselors in the following year.
Ideal candidates are individuals who enjoy working with and inspiring children, are active and fun-loving, looking for entry level work experience, and are ready for more responsibility. Previous work experience is not required.
Duties include supervising children and assisting with bathroom/water breaks, helping to lead different indoor and outdoor activities and crafts, support counselors in resolving minor conflicts, assist in packing and distributing lunches, general cleaning, and other duties as assigned.
Hours include 2 to 3 half-day shifts between 7:30am and 5:30pm Mon-Fri, for 10 weeks starting in the end of June through August, 5-10 hours per week with possible increases in hours towards the end of the season. Flexibility with scheduling is available but preference will be given to applicants with open availability.
Job Requirements: Applicants must be at least 14 years old by the start of their employment. First Aid/CPR certifications preferred but not required (training may be offered). Duties include working outside in hot and/or inclement weather. Staff are expected to be active participants in all activities including swimming. Salary: $15/hr Range: $15.00 - $15.50 per hour depending on performance and qualifications. |
| Snack Shack Employees – Seasonal, 15-25 hours/wk open to ages 16+ The Shack Employee serves as the “face” of the Town Beach and provides excellent customer service and is responsible for cooking, preparing, and serving food to the public and our Rec. Program participants.
Applicants should be self-driven, responsible, organized, and capable of making decisions on the fly and comfortable working with others and alone. Previous work and/or food-service experience is preferred.
Shifts include hours from 9am-8pm daily including weekends and holidays for about 10 weeks from the end of June through August. ServSafe, MA Allergen Awareness, and/or CPR/First Aid certifications are not required but are a plus. Some flexibility with scheduling is available but preference will be given to applicants with availability and experience.
Job Requirements: Applicants must be at least 16 years old by the start of their employment. Duties include handling and counting money, using a computer, interacting with customers and taking verbal orders, safely preparing food, using hand tools and small appliances, standing and navigating narrow walkways, working in a hot kitchen, and overhead lifting of 25+ lbs.
Salary: Starting at $15/hr. Range: $15 - $18 depending on performance and experience |
| Landscape Maintenance Crew - This position is no longer under the Parks & Recreation Department. The new Grounds Maintenance Crew reports to the Highway Department and they will post their own applications for those positions. |
